Tips & Tricks for those attending Resosummit

I thought I'd start a discussion with some tips and tricks I've picked up from attending previous Resosummits. Please add your advice and experience as you like.

  • Talk to everybody! I haven't been bitten once at Resosummit.
  • Stay hydrated. There will be water machines in the lobby and elsewhere.
  • If you need a break, there are plenty of dining options a very short walk away. I like the San Antonio Taco Company because it's fast and cheap. The Mellow Mushroom has good pizza.
  • Diagonally across the street from the Station Inn is the Turnip Truck Natural Market, sort of a Whole Foods type grocery and deli. They have very good food and are a good choice for a fast meal before the Station Inn (unless you prefer the pizza at the Station Inn). There's also a frozen yogurt shop in that same complex.

Mike Auldridge Tribute Concert, Birchmere

Mike Auldridge’s elegant musicianship forever changed the sound of the Dobro in American roots music. With the Seldom Scene, Chesapeake and others, he starred on hundreds of Birchmere evenings, and his death on Dec. 28, 2012 marked the passing of one of the DC area’s greatest creators, most influential players, and most cherished friends.

Some of Auldridge’s own cherished friends will gather Wednesday, Feb. 12
at The Birchmere for a night one more unforgettable night of Mike
Auldridge music. Jerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, David Bromberg, Rob
Ickes, John Starling, Tom Gray, The Seldom Scene and other greats will
sing and play songs and praises.

Summer Dobro Workshops

If you're thinking about a summer workshop with some dobro content I've got a couple to recommend.

I will be at Week 3 (Aug 11-17) of the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop along with Sally Van Meter and Stacy Phillips. Enough dobro for you? Sally will teach 2 classes, Stacy will teach 1 class, and I will be doing some workshop periods. (Stacy and I are teaching other classes besides dobro, too). It's a great workshop in a beautiful setting.   http://www.psgw.org/

I'm also teaching at Centrum's blues week July 29-Aug 5  http://www.centrum.org/blues/   I'll be offering a lap style slide class and a bottleneck class. The dobro class will explore some D tuning as well as G tuning and focus in a bluesy direction.
