Brad Harper - Harper Resophonics

In Early 2003, after our household budget committee repeatedly failed funding attempts for a new custom instrument, I began building Resophonic guitars. I modeled the first one after the sound I'd learned to appreciate as a player, and a look that I had envisioned since I was first introduced to the instrument back in 1996. After a few months planning I hit the shop and upon completion I proudly carried my first guitar throughout festival season. Several people liked what they heard, and I soon started another batch.
The attention and response from my first instrument lead me to pursue what has evolved into one of the most fulfilling ventures in my life. I work from my home shop in Statesville, NC. I do all the actual building myself but my wife Jodi plays a huge supporting role.
My approach is to merge classic lines with modern adornments and aesthetics for presenting a construction based on proven architectures - coupled with my own innovations. I use an open body with support posts and a parabolic baffle. The cone support system is a circular brace that spans the entire length of the top and rests on the neck/tail blocks. My guitars have an arched back and a tapered, reinforced square neck. I use the best woods & parts I can obtain and enjoy experimenting with wood, binding, purfling, hardware and finish combinations. My guitars come with either a fully custom Cedar Creek or Calton case.
I build and care for each instrument as if it were going to be my personal guitar. As such, a guitar will not leave the shop unless I'd be happy with it as my own.
