I know this has been discussed before, but would any of you good players out there be interested in giving lessons through a webcam? It would be a great help to those of use who don't live close to an instructor.
Troy posts vidz here often. I checked out his site and found this.
Also, Johnny Bellar will make DVD lessons for you. Eric (of chat room fame) knows more about it. I believe you let JB know what you want to learn (tunes, techniques, tunings) and he shoots a video for you. Not the same as live.
I haven't tried either one.

I have ordered a couple of lessons from Johnny Bellar. I found them packed full of creative ideas. Another good source is the Bluegrass College. They have a free lesson that you can try first to see if you like their approach. http://www.bluegrasscollege.org/

Bluegrass College sounds like they are about to go belly up. I think webcam lessons would be great, especially if the other person had an iMac. It's much better than Skype.

I took a few banjo lessons "back when" via a webcam setup. While it does work, it becomes very tedious and distractiing due to connection speeds, etc., that you have to contend with while doing anything over the internet. A 30 minute lesson could wind up lasting 2 to 3 hours and that is with each of us using high speed connections. The instructor that I worked with was really organized and made the lessons as enjoyable and beneficial as humanly possible. He would shoot video of the lesson and TAB'd everything out and these files were sent via email so they would be "on hand" for my personal practice in prepping for the actual "web" lesson. This aspect of the lessons worked great and were very effective.

Hey guys, I teach via webcam. You would just have to have AOL Instant messenger and a Pay Pal Account. My rates are $1.00 per minute, and I would suggest if you're interested to just email me and I might be able to record a lesson and put it up for sale on my site www.LessonsWithTroy.com. That would save you money. My lesson prices for videos are between $1.99 and $4.95, and most of my lessons come with TABLATURE too. Ok...enough shameless advertising. Anyway, just email me and we can work something out. Thanks!
