AMT Reso Soundhole Plugs

AMT is now offering "Reso Soundhole Plugs" constructed of rubber and foam which can be used to temporarily seal one or both soundholes of a reso when performing live in order to eliminate or substantially reduce uneven note response and/or feedback problems.  Many resos have a strong body air resonance in the 100 - 200 Hz upper bass frequency range which tends to vibrate sympathetically to any sound at or near this resonance frequency coming from monitor speakers, amps or other instruments on stage; this can cause notes played in the resonant frequency range to sound considerably louder than others and also limit the amount of monitor gain or amplifier loudness possible without the reso feeding back at its air resonance frequency.

By plugging both soundholes using a pair of AMT RSPs, stage sound striking a reso's body can be prevented from coupling directly into the tuned Helmholtz resonator formed by air enclosed inside the body and the open soundholes.  In many cases plugging both soundholes is unnecessary in order to alleviate problems with uneven note response and/or feedback; they can often be sufficiently mitigated by plugging only one soundhole, thereby reducing the degree of coupling between outside air and air inside the reso's body while also shifting the frequency of Helmholtz resonance lower.

The standard version of RSPs is designed for easy insertion and removal for resos with standard diameter round soundholes having either screenless trim rings or AMT's screenless "Tunable Sound Ports" installed.  For resoists who may prefer the appearance of traditional screened soundhole covers, AMT can supply RSPs designed for installation inside a standard screened soundhole cover.  By special arrangement, custom shaped RSPs can also be supplied for resos with f-holes or other non-standard soundhole shapes.
