Hey everyone ,
I bought a Wechter-Sheerhorn Rob Ickes back in December and had no issues in the way it sounded .Actually it fely pretty good to play and the setup seemed pretty good all around i couldnt see spending any money on an upgrade.
Well im sure we all know the new Sheerhorn cone was introduced about the same time as my economic stimulus refund check was recieved . knowing the guitar didnt have a premium cone or a 14 spider made me wonder WHAT IF ? So i made the order at Elderly .I wasnt sold on the cone as i had heard pros and cons "mostly pros" But wanted to test it against quatermans and i was worried about not being able to purchase a ebonex capped maple saddle insert ..After a few mails i agreed to Mail it to Bobby Wright and let him keep it until he was happy with it with either the cone i purchased or a quaterman from him . he also installed a new lyre coverplate which reqired filling the import screw holes and re-drilling new ones to match the new plate. he even asked if i wanted to remove the pick guard and i decided to keep it so he screwed it down and trimmed it to fit the new plate Bobby was a super nice guy that called me many times to keep me up to speed on what he was trying . and did a excellent job on this guitar i couldnt be any happier with it .
His opinions were that the Sheerhorn cone with a number 14 spider with ebony capped maple saddle inserts definately performed better (in this guitar ) he tested several different cone /spider/insert combinations including ebonex /sheerhorn ebonex/ quaterman but this was clearly better .
i got it back This past week Thursday .I cant believe how different it is WOW!!!! Its got a huge sound and is so crisp and sustain forever ,I would have never believed that this guitar would have ever sounded this good.I really notice the clarity of each note . and all with the volume that really cuts through its got big big sound !
So thanks to Bobby Wright I feel like he really spent alot of time putting parts in and taking them out testing each one and making sure i got all there is to get from this guitar.
Now at 2 years and 4 months i have 2 completely awesome sounding reso's
Maybe i have finally achieved dobro level 2 only 499 levels to go wooooohooooo!!!
