Hey everybody!
I finished my McKenna kit yesterday .Bobby Branton sold it to me in April i think and ive been sanding ,and staining ever since. I really wanted to use resolution black hardware i think it has such a cool look to it i wanted to find a color that would make it really stand out .first i was thinking Mohagany red but then decided it wasnt bright enough and i couldnt find any stain that was. also i decided i wouldnt have enough skill to do a laquer coat on my first attempt so i decided on a tung oil finish in about May . then i ordered some cherry red concentrate color .from stew mac to mix with the tung oil .and well its definately red now!!!also from stew mac a set of planet waves locking auto trimming tuning machines , they were the only black ones i could find at the time .
Then i was buying the reso black hard ware one piece at a time as i could afford it when i got reay for the coverplate Beard was out of them temporairily i remembered seeing a photo of a Clinesmith in the classified that had the hardware i was after so i wrote Todd Clinesmith and asked him if he had one he could sell me he agreed to sell me a set and was a super guy to deal with and for selling me a set he could have easily used on one of his own builds .
Then yesteday i drove to North Carloina to Brads awesome workshop and he spent some serious time tweeking in the setup .I cant say enough about Brad or ever thank him enough for letting me come by on a Saturday and taking the time to really make this reso sing .And it does in a big way .I also really got the tung oil idea from him in apost a while back when he finished one with it .
So i want to thank Greg McKenna for the awesome kit . Bobby Branton for allowing me to buy it from him, Todd Clinesmith for the awesome resolution black hardware ,and Brad Harper for tweeking it until it was right , then i got to hear him play it
He is off the chain !
More pictures later
Thank you everyone i love this guitar !
