for all you NY / NJ area fans: Jerry Douglas will appear on Sunday evening as part of a line-up with Charlie Haden & Family & Friends, when the distinguished jazz bassist collects his talented childen on stage along with Stuart Duncan, Dan Tyminski, Sam Bush, Bryan Sutton as part of the 25th annual Roots of American Music Festival, outdoors at Lincoln Center, for free. Since Patty Smith seems to be the headline act, it should probably be called the sprouts not the roots.
Later on, the JDB has two shows a night Oct 9,10, 11, 12 at the Blue Note but the charge is $30 just to sit at the bar $40 for a table. It seems like this up-scale jazz venue has gone out on a limb to book these nights, since it's hard to believe they'll fill the club for 8 shows — but who knows? Maybe Jerry will see Shpidey* there, wearing his NY Yankees cap.
