Gimme A Holler - Bill Frisell with Jerry Douglas

I've been listening to Bill's 1995 CD Nashville in the car this weekend. 'Haven't spun that one in quite some time but I was reminded how great it is. Jerry demonstrates his mastery of texture in the way he compliments Frisel'sl perfectly chosen notes and feeling of space. How many jazz guitarists could write and perform in basically a country vein with this much originality and service to the songs? A deep harmonic language belies the seeming simplicity of what he plays. How many virtuoso lap-style players could shelve the hot licks and support the music so well? For me, this gets to the soul of country music in a way that umpteen Tele shredders rarely approach.
